ROGER is a research day centered on the topics of (1) surface and underwater drones and (2) underwater image processing. The two topics are highly linked together as nowadays, surface and underwater drones serve as the primary platforms for capturing underwater images. Nevertheless, the raw visual data collected by drones typically suffers from problems related to underwater environments such as: light absorption and scattering, color distortion, and low contrast and poor visibility conditions. In addition, we also have to consider the motion blur due to water currents or vehicle movement. Embedding image processing algorithms directly into both surface and underwater drones is becoming essential. It allows us to improve the input data quality for real-time decision making tasks such as obstacle avoidance, path adaptation, and detection of important objects such as pipelines, wrecks, and biological species.
This event aims to bring together researchers from several SEA-EU universities and research units. This event is organized by the SEA-EU project ROV-Operate members (http://beru.univ-brest.fr/rov-operate).
